Rooney: "Tao sẽ xé xác thằng Ronaldo"

A bitter feud has erupted between Manchester United clubmates Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo over the English striker's sending off in the World Cup quarter final against Portugal.

Rooney was given his marching orders just after the hour mark of the match, which Portugal went on to win on penalties. Ronaldo, who plays with Rooney at Old Trafford, intervened after Rooney appeared to have stamped on Ricardo Carvalho's groin.

Several British newspapers have reported Rooney was threatening to 'get Ronaldo back' during angry outbursts on both the team bus and at breakfast the next morning.

Ronaldo has insisted he did not ask for Rooney to be sent off, but was pointing out that a foul had been committed.

"I tried to talk to the referee and say it was a foul but I didn't say he should give a red card," he told PA. "I felt very sorry for him (Rooney) because we are team-mates and very good friends."

Rooney shoved Ronaldo away after the Portuguese winger had become involved in the aftermath of the incident.

Whatever the outcome, Ronaldo has won few friends with the English team, with Steven Gerrard describing Ronaldo's actions as disappointing.

"I saw that, and if it was one of my team-mates I'd be absolutely disgusted in him because there's no need for that," Gerrard said.

"I've seen Ronaldo going over giving the card and I think he's bang out of order."

"I think that sums him up as a person," he said. "If I was playing against my team-mates from Liverpool and they were involved in a situation like that, I'd never try and get them sent off."
